Purchasing foam for seat cushions on boats can be challenging. You need to make sure that you are using a foam that is water-resistant and won’t get damaged by mold or mildew if it gets wet. One answer to this is a closed cell foam such as polyurethane, which can doesn’t allow water to get inside of the foam’s interior. This is a great choice for some outdoor cushions but it may not be the most comfortable choice for a seat that will used for a long period of time.
A great alternative is to select a dryfast foam that is open celled. This means that the foam consists of large pockets of air in between the material. This allows airflow to pass easily through the foam, which improves the amount of time it needs to dry. This not only means that it will dry out quickly but that it is resistant to mold and mildew. In fact, many dryfast foams have an antimicrobial treatment to further inhibit mold and mildew, which is another reason why dryfast foams make some of the best marine foam cushions.
Dry fast foam is easy to purchase and put into a seat cushion. All you need to do is measure the amount of foam you need and then cut your foam using an electric knife or other cutting implement. You can even choose a combination of foams for your interior cabin needs. One example would be to use a memory foam topper above your dry fast foam to have a solution that is soft to sit on but also has the water resistance you need on a boat.
