Cleaning your air ducts can mean freeing your home from contaminants such as dust, mites, dirt, mold spores and pollen.
However, in order to clean your ducts effectively, the right tools are necessary. So, here are 4 tools that can help you get the job done:
#1: Brushes
Brushes used to the duct should have long handles and stiff bristles. They are used to agitate the dust so that it can be cleared up by a vacuum. Just make sure the brush you use is of an appropriate size and that fits the duct properly as well as reaches the sides of the duct.
#2: Ladder
Cleaning the ducts requires you reach them in the first place. For this, you can either buy, rent or borrow a ladder from a friend or neighbor. You can even make your own ladder if you wish – make sure it’s sturdy and solidly assembled.
#3: Pressure Washers
This tool is only required when you haven’t cleaned a duct in an office or room that has not been used for a long time. If the contaminants have spread across the ventilation ducts, then this is another scenario in which you should use this tool. Finally, if your home has been affected by floods or natural disasters, you should use pressure washers too.
#4: Vacuums
There are two types of tools that you can use: one, which fits over the duct openings creating a negative airflow that should prevent contamination of the air duct. The second type can fit into the duct coils as well as sharp turns, thanks to its long hose. Both these types of vacuums have HEPA filters that prevent the contamination of air quality at home or the office.
